- Billboard Magazine "Wistful, sardonic, sentimental and wry..." - Bay Area Reporter "Dark enigmatic beauty...bursting with subtle intelligence." - Our Town Rachelle Garniez - Luckyday (OCM1002) Luckyday is the third CD of Rachelle Garniez's startlingly original songs, and like her two previous releases, it is destined to surprise and enthrall her legions of loyal fans, while bringing countless unsuspecting music lovers into the fold. It is also the most vividly realized vision of an extraordinary musical landscape, which Rachelle has been leading us through for years. A lifetime New Yorker, Rachelle cut her teeth in punk bands, made her bones in bar bands, and has moved through the ranks to become one of the city's most versatile and unique musicians, working in jazz, pop, the avant-garde, and a variety of folk traditions. Her debut CD "Serenade City" was a decidedly noir-jazz take on pop song; the follow up, "Crazy Blood," delivered New Orleans horns and Cajun, swampy mambo. "Luckyday" retains the swirling improvisatory tone of Garniez's legendary live shows, but fuses it effortlessly with some of her finest, genre defying, pop song craft yet. This luminescent collection of tunes features Garniez's compelling and remarkable voice-ranging from breathy whisper to threatening growl to clear- as-a-bell stratospheric sweetness-and she also gets to strut her instrumental stuff; cutting loose on some stunningly played piano, as well as with her signature accordion. By turns bittersweet, bitingly funny, achingly tender, but always evocative, and daringly beautiful, this music can only be called Alternative Americana. It's like finding the beast inside Norah Jones' and setting it free to hunt Tom Waits' while he channels Maria Callas' who's getting busy with Ornette Coleman in a seaside Mexican hacienda. Or as Rachelle says, "it's something kind of like love at first sight. Only a little more complicated". Track Listing:

READ ONESHEET This is The Old Cow's first release, and we're thrilled by the sales and critical aclaim that it's generating. After years as a very busy sideman in New York guitarist
Matt Munisteri was able to recruit some of his favorite players for a
band that would allow for both elegantly constructed songs and mature
improvisation. Above all he sought to create material that was true to
his time and experience, without beating the easy retreat into retro cliché,
haphazard ironic pastiche, or faux-folksy hokum. Brock Mumford is the
end result, and the band's music sounds like a wistful trip back to a
long forgotten era in American popular music that hasn't even happened
yet. You can read more about Matt and the band at their website Track Listing:
